Klettersteig (Via-Ferrata) Course

Two day Klettersteig (Via Ferrata) course suitable for beginners and people with some experience. Course will take place near Vienna, so no overnight stay needed.

Day 1: Mödlinger Klettersteig (B/C)
Description and correct use of the equipment
Partner check
Basics of climbing technique on the Klettersteig
Klettersteig will be climbed up and down (there are Klettersteige which are intended to be climbed down)
Easy Abseiling und belaying

Day 2: Währinger Steig (C) and Ganghofer Steig (C/D)
Climbing the Währinger Steig
Refinement of climbing technique
Revision of day 1
Walk to the Ganghofersteig via the Zischkasteig
Use of the map
Climbing of the Ganghoferesteig

Klettersteig equipment can be rented at Alpenverein Austria Servicestelle (Rotenturmstraße 14) for the course, free of charge. If you dont yet own Klettersteig equipment, please don´t buy it before the course as you will get some advice about buying equipment during the course. Of course, you can bring along your own equipment if you already have it.

Until the 3rd April 2026 you may only enrol for the course if you are member of the alpineclubvienna.org!

Equipment:
Klettersteig set (Y-Lanyard), helmet, harness, slings, 1 carabiner (can be rented free of charge at Alpenverein Austria), optional Klettersteig gloves. Functional hiking/sport clothing, rain jacket, hiking boots, preferably with vibram soles, Rucksack, drinks and snacks
