Safe ascent and descent on skies in glaciated terrain! As an experienced ski tourer you learn the basics to attempt ski tours in glacier terrain independently and on your own responsibility. The course includes basic rope and rescue techniques for glacier travel in high altitudes.

The following is a typical schedule with the guide fine tuning the plan according to the prevailing weather conditions and the experience of the group:

DAY 1: Arrive in Austria, welcome to the meeting point. The guide organizes luggage transport to Jamtalhütte (or similar), 3,5 hours ascent to the hut. After dinner: preview of the activities of the week.

DAY 2: Refresh standards, Stop or Go, repetition of transceiver search, pin point, shovel strategy, introduction to rope techniques on glacier. Planning for the next day.

DAY 3: Training tour - with lots of content from the day before. Planning for the next day.

DAY 4: Glacier training - moving in a rope party, group management, decision-making, orientation. Planning for the next day.

DAY 5: Training - climbing technique with crampons, fixed anchors, rescue management and first aid. Planning for the next day.

DAY 6:Training climbing technique with crampons, fixed anchors, rescue management and first aid. In the evening: reflections on the week.

DAY 7:Descent to the meeting point, farewell around 12:00

In the evenings there will be theoretical units on orientation, reading maps, alpine dangers and alpine weather.

Anforderungen
18 years of age. Free from mental and physical handicap. Fitness for ascents with skies up to 1.000 meters in altitude with your backpack (about 8 kg). Good experience in ski touring. Ski confidently off piste on steep slopes up to 35° (you can ride on most snow types without falls), able to respond to the guide´s instructions. Good knowledge of how to use transceiver, shovel and probe. Good technique walking with ski crampons and doing kick turns
