Improvers Ski Touring Training

The Silvretta Mountains at the border of Tyrol and Vorarlberg are perfect for Skitouring lovers. This course prepares experienced ski tourers to attempt more difficult ski tours independently. You learn how to plan tours with the background of modern avalanche awareness and mountain rescue techniques.

The following is a typical schedule with the guide fine tuning the plan according to the prevailing weather conditions and the experience of the group:
DAY 1: Meet in Ischgl at the Tourismusverband Paznaun-Ischgl at 13:00. You can hire your rental equipment best at SPORT 2000/Sport Walter in Galtür (9 km away). At 14:00 we will take several cable cars to get to the top of Piz Val Gronda Cable Car (2.812 m); from here ski to the Heidelberger Hütte. Welcome to Heidelberger Hütte. After dinner: preview of the activities for the week.
DAY 2: Introduction to the equipment. Training tour - refreshing technique for walking uphill, downhill, traverse, switchback, learning about elements of the avalanche status report (LLB) and its interpretation, repeating the use of avalanche emergency equipment, navigation on tour (map). Reflections on the day.
DAY 3 - 5: Training ski tours encouraging independent decision-making on tour including planning, estimation of the terrain, lane setting, navigation with map and/or outdoor watch, compass and altimeter, smartphone with alpenvereinaktiv.com app. Stop or go and emergency avalanche procedures on tour (current evaluation and exercises, group searching, simple and complex searching scenarios, multiple burying). Improving shovel technique, first aid, emergency call (e.g. mountain rescue), bivouac sack, improving skiing technique, group dynamics in the mountain. Reflections on the day.
The following peaks can be climbed during this course: Breite Krone (3079 m), Piz Tasna (3179 m), Zahnjoch (2945 m), Heidelberger Spitze (2965 m), Piz Mottana (2928 m)
DAY 6: Final ski tour. Reflections on the day.
DAY 7: Farewell after breakfast and ski down to Ischgl (1 hour)

In the evenings there will be theoretical units on safety issues: weather, Stop or Go, emergency avalanche procedures, navigation, alpenvereinaktiv.com app.

18 years of age.Free from mental and physical handicap.Fitness to hike 1000 meters in altitude with your backpack (about 6 kg).Ski confidently off piste on moderately steep slopes up to 35° (you can ski most snow types without falls, able to respond to the guide´s instructions).Walk uphill on skis at 400m / hour for 3 continuous hours and be capable of doing this for 4 consecutive days.Completion of the Basic Ski Touring Training or corresponding knowledge.
