Via Ferrata Training

For members who have good hiking experience and are new to Klettersteige/Via Ferratas. You receive instructions for the use of the equipment technique and tactics on Via Ferratas to attempt Via Ferrata tours independently.

Planned daily routine:

The following is a typical schedule with the guide fine tuning the plan according to the prevalling weather conditions and the experience of the group.

DAY 1: Arrive in Salzburg/Austria either by train or flight. Train ride from Salzburg central station to Schladming (hourly Intercity train direction Graz). From here to take local bus 960 to get to Ramsau main square. From here you take a short taxi ride to the 4* Bio Hotel Feistererhof in Ramsau. Meet your guide. After dinner preview of the acitivities/routes for the whole week.

DAY 2: The guide helps members renting the Via Ferrata-Equipment at Sportgeschäft Ski-Willy.
Via Ferrata training: putting on harness, use of Klettersteig Set, standard operating procedures (sops) for Via Ferratas, how to move forward on a Via Ferrata, about various types of Via Ferratas. Planning the next day

DAY 3: Via Ferrata educational trail, different elements on Via Ferratas and risk factors. How to plan a Via Ferrata tour. Planning the next day

DAY 4: Via Ferrata training: how to read topos, climbing technique, first aid and rescue training. Planning the next day

DAY 5: Via Ferrata Training: different aspects when moving on a Via Ferrata as a group. Orientation with maps, topos, apps. Planning the next day

DAY 6: Time management on Via Ferrata tours. Reflection on the week.

DAY 7: Farewell around 9 oclock, transfer by bus/train to Salzburg Central Train Station or Salzburg Airport.

In the evening there will be theoretical units on various topics like orientation, how to read maps and topos, how to use apps, alpine dangers and alpine weather.

18 years of age. Free from mental and physical handicap. Fitness to hike up 700m in altitude with your backpack (about 6 kg). Sure footed in pathless and rough terrain. Free from fear of height and vertigo.
